Learning how to listen and see

When I look back at the past month, I reflect on what happened in my life that helped me to know the meaning of mission. I regularly visit our neighbors here, and they share with me about their life. But one of them always shares the same thing with me whenever I go to visit her. So even before she starts to speak, I already know what she would say. Yet I am always very patient in listening to her.

I recently went to visit her again. As always, she shared the same things with me, but I find it interesting to listen to her again and again. We need to share with and to listen to others. I don’t know why it seems that she only shares those things with me. Maybe the opportunity to be able to say what she wants to say gives her some kind of a relief. I also ask myself why I spend the time to listen to her, but I have no answer. I only know it has been meaningful to me.

She shares with me about her experiences because I am a Claretian Missionary, which is a special gift I have received from God. I remember that in our last delegation assembly, we were called to become listeners. It is the love of God that impels me to take the mission as a Claretian Missionary, not out of any illusion but of my personal experience.

I sometimes feel numb about what happens in my daily life, especially about the things that people say to me. I lack awareness, which is a challenge for me. But there is still a chance to improve as long as I am willing. I will try to pay attention to the things that I am experiencing to be aware of what I do and how God works in my life. ~Joseph
